Vipassana Centers
Dhamma Torana (Auspicious Gateway of Dhamma) is aptly named. The nearest major city, Toronto has been recognized by the United Nations as the most diverse city in the world, with more cultures and religions represented there than anywhere else. The centre has over 140 acres of beautiful woods, open spaces and ravines. A variety of wildlife shares the land with the meditators. The surrounding countryside is mostly agricultural, but a number of small towns and the city of Barrie are nearby.
Dhamma Ujjala which means “Bright or Blazing Dhamma” was purchased in December 2008. It is located in the pristine Clare Valley one and three quarter hours north of Adelaide.
The Centre land is a 23.6 hectare (58 acres) near square block. The land is hilly with great views to the West. The area is very quiet and secluded and 3 km from Clare township. There are two small dams onsite and power to the property boundary. The main vegetation is gum trees and grassy areas and wildlife abounds.
Dhamma Utkal, meaning ‘Excellence of Dhamma’, is located in the Odisha district near the border of Chhattishgarh. It is about 7 kms from Khariar Road Railway Station and about 120 kilometers from Raipur city, capital of Chhattishgarh state. The center is being established on 11 acres of land, full of eucalyptus trees, in a calm and serene location, with two small rivers and a small mountain nearby. The Dhamma Hall, residences for forty male and female students, dining and office complex, and boundary wall are all completed. 10-day course are being regularly conducted every month.
The Center is located just North of Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, CA. It is a 2-1/2 hr. drive from the Los Angeles and San Diego metropolitan areas. It is possible to reach the Center using public transportation with careful planning in advance, but requires multiple buses that run on a limited schedule and a full day of travel. The ride share board is the recommended option.
Dhamma Vahini, meaning ‘Flow of Dhamma’, is located on 29 acres of land on the bank of River Kalu about 6 kms from Titwala railway station. The centre is well connected with Mumbai by road and by suburban rail. There are 30 rooms on the ground floor with attached bathrooms. The Meditation hall can comfortably seat 60 meditators.
Dhamma Vatika is situated on a 10-acres lush green farm of coconut and chikoo trees. It currently offers dormitory accommodations for students.
Dhamma Vijaya is located in a calm and quiet coconut garden (with cocoa as the intercrop), 3 KMs away from the main village Vijayarai. This village is 15 KMs from Eluru, which is the district headquarters of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Eluru is well connected by Rail and Road in Vijayawada-Vishakapatnam section of Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. The nearest airport (Vijayawada-Gannavaram) is less than one hour's drive from the centre. The area of the center is 3.0 acres, which was donated by a meditator-couple.
The first course was conducted in June 2003. Since then, one 10-day course is being held every month and one Satiptthana course a year. There are seven individual meditation cells for male students and another seven for women. There are plans to construct a few more on either side.
The centre has accommodation for 21 male students (8 double rooms and 5 single rooms) and 18 female students (8 double rooms and 2 single rooms). There are two meditation halls, which can seat 50 and 30 students respectively.
At a distance of 40 KMs from this centre, there is a historical Buddhist place called Guntupalli (also called as Jeelakarragudem) dating back to 3rd century B.C. There are many rock-cut caves where Buddhist monks used to meditate. These are believed to be more ancient than world famous Ajanta and Ellora caves.
Dhamma Vipula, meaning Dhamma Profound, is situated amidst 3 acres of forest land in New Mumbai, near Mumbai city. It is on the highest point on Parsik Hill. Its location is ideal for people living busy life in a metropolitan city. The centre is comprised of spacious two-story building with modern amenities. It is equipped with self contained residential rooms, dining hall & fully air conditioned meditation hall. In addition to ten day meditation area, the centre has a separate wing where regular short courses are conducted for old students, and a separate area for one day courses held every Sunday for old students.
Dhamma Viriya means in the Pali language: "Effort in Dhamma". It is the second Vipassana meditation center in Argentina, located 9km from Capilla del Monte in the province of Cordoba.
Established in Hanoi in 2018 and located in the Soc Son district, Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, the center is managed by UCENLIST - the Center for Life Skills Training & Vipassana Meditation, a non-profit organization under the Vietnam UNESCO Association. The center is dedicated to Vipassana Meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin since its first days and offers around two 10-day courses per month, along with several Satipatthana courses and short courses.
Dhamma Visuddhi is situated on 15 acres of forested property on the bluffs overlooking the Red Cedar river and the town of Menomonie, Wisconsin. The site is within the city limits, and yet very quiet and secluded. Dhamma Visuddhi, a name that means ‘Purity of Dhamma’, is a little more than one hour east of the Minneapolis/ Saint Paul airport in a traditional dairy farming area of western Wisconsin, and is easily reached by regularly scheduled public transportation.
